Hungry for more informal, in-person get-togethers with fellow PSCSTA members?
 
Please consider organizing your own meetup, particularly if you live outside central Puget Sound or would like to discuss a particular topic (e.g., K-5 CS education).   PSCSTA will reimburse $12 per member attending (min 3 max 10) for “pizza money” for these meetups.  Meetups will be featured in future issues of the Connector. 
 
Contact csta.pugetsound@gmail.com with details at least one week before the event to receive funding for these meetups.  Please allow more time if you want help promoting or recruiting for the event.

The inaugural "Washington Computer Science Education Extravaganza" has been rescheduled/postponed.

New Dates: The Extravaganza will now commence in February 2024 and conclude in December 2024.

This decision was taken to ensure that we provide an enhanced and memorable experience for all participants. We are committed to offering the best event possible, and this additional time will be instrumental in achieving that goal.

CSTA Puget Sound (WA) (aka "PSCSTA") is piloting the inaugural "Washington Computer Science Education Extravaganza" - an online competition for schools running through the end of 2024.   Computer science teachers and their students participate in various pro-CSEd activities to earn points for their school and determine "the most fabulous" computer science high schools in Washington state.    We need volunteers, sponsors, donors, and passionate supporters of CS education to make this event even more fantastic for all the teachers and students involved.  Contact csta.pugetsound@gmail.com to help.

Over the past two years, PSCSTA (Puget Sound Computer Science Teachers Association) and CSTA have greatly expanded the benefits that it provides to members.   This orientation (virtual) on Apr 19 at 7:00 PM introduces both new and long-lost members to the numerous benefits provided by PSCSTA and CSTA so that you can get the most out of your membership. 
 
The orientation is free.   Registration will get this orientation on your calendar and help us better plan for the event.   Zoom information will be sent out closer to the actual event.

PSCSTA provides official Washington state clock hours for online, self-paced CSTA courses [Spring Session Apr 3 - Jun 11]

PSCSTA is providing official Washington state clock hours for the following online, self-paced CSTA courses [Spring Session] for its members: 
 
Identity Inclusion for K-12 Computer Science Educators [Spring Session] | Computer Science Teachers Association (csteachers.org) [10 clock hours]

AND

Teach Security: The Security Mindset [Spring Session] | Computer Science Teachers Association (csteachers.org) [4 STEM clock hours]

The Spring session is from Apr 3 - Jun 11, 2023.    Cost is free to CSTA+ members.   While these courses are available to standard CSTA members for $40 (security) or $99 (identity), PSCSTA strongly suggests becoming a CSTA+ member ($50) first and then taking these courses for free.

PSCSTA will also provide clock hours for future sessions of this course for the rest of this school year.   

If you are interested in getting clock hours for either of these courses, please contact csta.pugetsound@gmail.com before starting work on the actual course so that we can look out for you.

CS Endorsement Exam Prep Course for Washington

CSTA+, WeTeach_CS, Shoreline Community College, and CSTA Puget Sound (PSCSTA) are pleased to announce a free, online, self-paced pilot course to help Washington teachers pass the WEST/NES Computer Science Endorsement Exam.   The course is based on the WeTeach_CS Foundations of CS for Teachers: Praxis Prep course ($600 value) which has helped over 2000 teachers pass the endorsement exam in their states and adapted for the WEST/NES exam used for Washington.   Course participants will also receive CSTA+ memberships ($50 value) to provide them with the resources, professional development, and professional learning community to support them throughout their careers. The PSCSTA Spring 2019 Programming Contest held on April 20 at the Microsoft Commons in Redmond was an enormous success. With approximately 180 students from 85 teams, this was the largest number of students we have ever had for a spring event.
